Product Description
The G&G Wildhog is a great platform for those who want to pick up an AEG and go, with no need to plan upgrades or even ever touch the internals. Inside we are treated to the well regarded G&G G2 gearbox, the G&G MOSFET/ETU system which allows for 3 round bursts and rock solid full metal externals with a CNC machined KeyMod handguard. For a plug and play setup which is equipped to contend with the best, the Wildhog is a fantastic choice!
Starting at the tip of the alloy outer barrel we can find a sound amplifying muzzle device which mounts to 14mm CCW male threads. The sound amplifier alters the muzzle report of the AEG significantly, making it ear ringingly loud and giving it a serious physiological warfare advantage in CQB. If you prefer a different look or you like to sneak about with a suppressor or tracer, you can add one easily thanks to the 14mm CCW threading, just make sure you remove the grub screw in the sound amp before unscrewing it!
The handguard follows shortly after the muzzle device which sits slightly recessed into the handguard for a more integrated look, giving the Wildhog a dynamic appearance similar to integrally suppressed rifles. The handguard boasts KeyMod attachment slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, allowing you to add KeyMod accessories such as rail covers and grips directly, or make use of 20mm Picatinny rail adapters for KeyMod if you prefer to use more common accessories for the 20mm Picatinny interface.
Throughout the design of this handguard, we have weight-reducing ports which not only keep the front end light and quick to point but add a lot to the aesthetic of the Wildhog, keeping in line with real modern M4/AR15 rifles. At the 12 o'clock position, we have a 20mm Picatinny rail which mates seamlessly with the receiver rail, providing a long rail which is perfect for optical sights of almost any length.
Next up we arrive at the receiver, which in this Wildhog is constructed from robust high density polymer, the same type used on the legendary ARP9 platform which is known for its strength. We would wager this polymer is probably more robust than most alloy M4 receivers! The receiver design mimics real world "billet" receivers found on the more modern generations of AR15, and has angular cuts across its design, giving an ultra-modern look.
The front of the magazine well features gripping grooves to allow you to use it as a makeshift grip when operating in unconventional positions, and the fire selector switch is redesigned with extra texture, and is found where you would expect, just above the pistol grip on the left side of the receiver. The selector provides 3 positions; Safe, Semi-automatic and fully automatic, with a 90-degree throw between each mode. The semi auto position can also be reprogrammed for 3 round burst thanks to the G&G MOSFET/ETU and you will find instructions on how to do so in the "Special Instructions" section below, and also in the user manual.
The magazine release is ambidextrous, offering a release on the right and left sides of the magazine well, well within reach of the trigger finger for either left or right-handed users when the rifle is held in a firing grip. This has the advantage of making reloads super slick and easy, allowing for a retention reload or a drop-free emergency reload when needed. Just above the left side magazine release, we have a dummy bolt release catch. This does nothing on an Airsoft AEG but is nonetheless a big part of producing an accurate replica, and the G&G part is constructed from alloy as a separate piece.
The charging handle is located at the top rear of the receiver and is also ambidextrous, being patterned after the famous "Raptor" charging handle which is well regarded in the real steel world. This charging handle can be operated with a single finger and from either side, making HOP-up adjustment easy no matter how you wield the Wildhog. Pulling the charging handle will open the dust cover on the right side and retract the mock bolt carrier, behind which you will find the adjustable HOP-up unit. This unit is the gear type, meaning it is an older design but it is well made and the adjustment wheel is nice and firm, allowing for quick adjustments and holding its setting well under the ferocious speed an 11.1V battery provides.
The trigger is a standard curved Milspec trigger which is a great trigger for general use, with its gentle curve ensuring your finger doesn't slip when sending rapid semi-auto shots downrange. The trigger guard is constructed from alloy and is an enlarged design, granting that little bit of extra room for gloved users, and allowing fast access to the trigger while preventing accidental discharges.
At the rear of the receiver, we come to the buffer tube and stock setup of the Wildhog, providing a standard 6-position M4/AR15 buffer tube which is compatible with aftermarket stocks for the M4/AR15 AEG platform, and the unique and highly functional G&G GOS V1 stock. The GOS stock provides a Crane stock-like battery compartment with plenty of space, and the battery compartment can be accessed by pressing the button at the top rear of the stock and rotating the butt plate until it comes free. Inside you will find a mini-Tamiya connector to which you mount your battery of choice. For the CM16 Wildhog we recommend an 11.1V 1300mAh LiPo nunchuck battery with a mini-Tamiya connector as the G&G G2 gearbox is 11.1V LiPo ready, and its low voltage cutoff function will likely not accept 7.4V LiPos.
If you love Airsoft but you hate tinkering and don't fancy upgrading your gun the Wildhog should have everything it takes to compete on the modern Airsoft battlefield. Available in 3 different lengths to suit any skirmish scenario, the Wildhog will outpace pretty much anything that hasn't been upgraded thanks to its compatibility with 11.1V batteries and the impressive internal feature set and is built like a tank while being surprisingly light and easy to move fast with.
