Product Description
If you are after a serious game changer to up your firepower next skirmish, the NUPROL Matrix MGL 40mm MOSCART Grenade Launcher is the way to go. This MOSCART grenade launcher sidesteps conventions by providing a 6 shot revolver style launcher based on the iconic real steel Milkor M32 MGL, issued to the US Marine Corps and featured in video games such as Call of Duty: Ghosts and GTA V.
As with other Airsoft grenade launchers, the Matrix makes use of 40mm MOSCART grenades as its power source, but unlike others, the Matrix can hold up to 6 inside its revolver-style cylinder. This means you can dump an absolutely overwhelming torrent of fire in seconds, as fast as the trigger can be pulled!
The mechanism works via a spring-assisted winding mechanism, requiring that the cylinder be wound up before loading with MOSCARTs and offering a single trigger pull to both fire the shot and rotate the cylinder into position for the next one. Make no mistake, the Matrix is your best friend in a skirmish, but when running one of these, don't expect to make any friends on the enemy team!
Starting at the front, we are treated to an aluminium outer barrel, unlike other similar revolver launchers on the market previously. This is a great touch for added realism, giving the launcher the appropriate balance and feel to match the real thing. The barrel is also threaded at the tip and fitted with a pre-installed thread protector, but we don't think they make suppressors or tracers for grenade launchers...yet!
Surrounding the barrel we can find our handguard which is constructed from high density polymer with CNC machined aluminium 20mm Picatinny rails mounted at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock positions. The handguard is similar looking to the real steel VLTOR CASV handguard, appropriately simulating the real Milkor M32 MGL which was developed by Milkor USA with assistance from VLTOR. The handguard rails allow all manner of accessories to be mounted, including laser aiming modules, tactical flashlights and grips of various styles.
Moving rearwards, we come to the interesting part; the cylinder and its mechanism. The cylinder itself and the receiver are constructed from high density polymer with an aluminium receiver bridge bar at the top to keep things strong. To open the cylinder, you will need to rotate the dial found on the bottom to release the steel brace/locking mechanism, then pull the hook-like protrusion at the front of the cylinder forward, after which the cylinder can be rotated clear of the action to the left. With this done, we are greeted with 6 empty chambers, ready for your 40mm MOSCART shells to be loaded.
The easiest way to wind the mechanism of the MGL is to rotate the cylinder counter-clockwise before loading until the mechanism is fully wound. Fortunately, the mechanism will prevent any overwinding, making the Matrix truly idiot-proof. The next step is to load your MOSCART grenades, close the cylinder, rotate the locking mech to lock the cylinder and you are ready to rock.
Above the cylinder, we are treated to a 20mm Picatinny rail, allowing a red dot sight to be mounted for those who like to take careful shots with their MGL. An aiming device may not be necessary for this launcher in its Airsoft iteration, though it is nice that NUPROL included this detail to match the real launcher. This rail is constructed from CNC machined aluminium and can be removed entirely if you prefer to instinct aim.
The trigger mechanism is housed in the high density polymer receiver, with the pistol grip, fire selector, trigger guard and trigger appearing just behind the cylinder. The fire selector is mirrored on either side, making it perfect for left or right-handed shooters and pairing well with the ambidextrous cylinder lock and release controls. With a 90-degree throw between each mode and safe at the top with the fire mode below, the fire selector is fast to actuate and easy to reach, complete with a textured surface for optimal grip. The trigger guard is constructed from steel and is nice and large, providing loads of room for full-finger gloves to be used effectively.
The pistol grip is a unique design made by VFC and is known as the QRS pistol grip. This grip is based on ultra-modern M4/AR-15 pistol grips and boasts a comfortable profile with a filled-out back strap and crackle texture on either side for effective grip in any weather condition. Compatibility-wise, this pistol grip appears to be identical to the AEG version of the QRS grip (the hole for the motor height adjustment screw gives this away) though we are currently unable to confirm whether the Matrix takes standard M4/AR-15 AEG pistol grips. Just above the grip on the stock mounting mechanism, we are treated to a QD sling socket on either side, allowing QD sling swivels to be mounted for a modern and modular sling setup.
The stock mounting mechanism of the Matrix is patterned after the real steel MGL in that the stock angle can be changed to facilitate lobbing shots over cover. To alter the stock angle you will need to press the two buttons on either side of the stock mounting mech, position the stock into your choice of the 3 available positions and release the buttons to lock the setting in place. As there is practically no recoil in an Airsoft launcher, this is probably not necessary but it sure is cool!
The stock itself is the VFC QRS stock, mounted to a 6-position M4/AR-15 buffer tube offering a wide range of adjustments to suit any body type or loadout and compatibility with aftermarket M4/AR-15 stocks. The QRS design combines several features from modern M4/AR-15 platform stocks, including an A-frame design to reduce snagging, a trigger style adjustment lever for fast and easy stock adjustment, a QD sling socket on either side and a textured rubberised butt plate for optimum grip. At the toe of the stock, we also have a short section of 20mm Picatinny rail for mounting a monopod, additional sling mount or anything else you can think of mounting!
The Matrix MGL requires 40mm MOSCART grenades to function and can accept almost any MOSCART, though the CO2-powered examples are unlikely to work as they often require a far stronger trigger/firing pin action. We recommend S&T 40mm MOSCARTs as we have had great luck with them, either the 70rnd or 120rnd versions. If you are new to the world of Airsoft grenade launchers and need a bit of intel on MOSCARTs so you know what you are getting yourself into, check out our guide on MOSCARTs here!
Whether the single-shot grenade launchers simply do not excite you any more or you are in need of a significant increase in firepower, the NUPROL Matrix MGL 40mm MOSCART Grenade Launcher is the tool you need to get the job done. Both for a USMC loadout or for a generic grenadier, the Matrix is sure to turn heads and cause the enemy to turn tails!

Special Instructions
Due to the design of the MGL, the cylinder has the potential to bind if the handguard of the launcher is pulled rearwards during firing. For maximum reliability and the ability to dump the entire cylinder quickly and without interruption, we recommend mounting a vertical grip to the handguard and pushing forward on it as you pull the trigger.
